The PTO’s Green Team recently sponsored two fantastic events to help make Brackett more sustainable.
Pick Up at Pick Up!
On Wednesday, October 30, The Brackett Green Team hosted our first ever Pick Up at Pick Up! The team supplied gloves, compostable bags, and grabbers (generously on loan from the Department of Public Works) to the Brackett community at the 2:30 student pick up. Students and family members pitched in and picked up trash in the entire front schoolyard. The event was a great success — much trash was picked up and the students (and adults) had a lot of fun with the grabbers!
The Great Pumpkin Rescue
Brackett families were able to drop off their pumpkins on the morning of Monday, November 4 to be composted by Black Earth. Since pumpkins are food, they can’t be put into yard waste pickup, but through the Pumpkin Rescue they are able to be composted which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and helps food, gardens, and trees grow. The parent/caregiver volunteers on the Green Team had help from some members of the fifth grade class in tossing pumpkins into the Black Earth truck. It was a great opportunity for the students to get some fresh air, learn about composting, and take action to help the environment!
A huge shout out to Gillian Wright-Cassone for leading the PTO’s Brackett Green Team and organizing these awesome events!
