Brackett parent volunteers needed for the 2020 Winter On-Line Auction

Dear Brackett community,
I am the new chair of the 2020 Winter On-line Auction. I'm looking for a couple of volunteers to help with the on-line auction that runs in late January to early February. This is a perfect opportunity help the school from your computer at home or the office.
Here are some of tasks:
·         Solicit donations
·         Send out emails to past donors and brainstorm new opportunities
·         Populate the auction website
·         Collect auction items from donors
·         Promote the auction via electronic and physical communication
·         Connect auction winners with their prizes
·          Send thank you notes to donors

Brackett STEM Committee Meeting

Please join the Brackett STEM Committee for our 2019-2020 kickoff meeting!  Meet other parents interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and help organize this year’s Brackett STEM activities!   Drinks and light food.
 
Kindergarten parents, or anyone new to the STEM Committee are particularly encouraged to join us.

RAINBOW ALLIANCE CLUB & BRACKETT LGBTQ+ LIAISON 
Dear Brackett 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Families,
All grade 3,4 and 5 students are invited to join Brackett’s afterschool LGBTQ+ club, the        Rainbow Alliance! This club will meet in room 318 from 2:30-3:30 on the following Mondays in Term 1: 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/18, 11/25 and 12/2.
Each club meeting will focus on a different topic through art projects, discussions, and group activities. Topics will include LGBTQ+ vocabulary, stereotyping, diverse family structures, and history. It is never too early to learn about our diverse community while making some new friends. So, join in the fun at the fabulous Rainbow Alliance!

Brackett Bank

The Brackett School Savings Bank will be opening for the 34th year!
Below is the opening schedule for the 2019-2020 school year.

Students in grades 1 through 5 are invited to open an account and make deposits and withdrawals from their account on Friday mornings between 8:30 and 9:30 am during the school year.  Interested 5th grade students may sign up to volunteer at the bank.  More information will be provided through room parents.
 
This is a great opportunity for our children to learn about saving their money!

Math Mornings

On behalf of the STEM Committee, teams of parents are again running MATH MORNING Friday mornings at 7:30am

Math Morning is an extracurricular, supplemental math program intended to inspire and energize students about interesting math topics. Each session typically includes a brief slide presentation on the topic, followed by worksheets with fun exercises. Parents are invited and encouraged to stay and assist their child with the worksheets, and are very welcome to join the teams.

4th Grade Math Mornings are FRIDAYS 7:30am in the Library.  All 4th graders and their parents are welcome!!  Contact Scott Uebelhart (scott.uebelhart@gmail.com) for more details.

 


What:   3rd Grade Math Mornings - Friday Mornings
Where: McHugo’s room, 3rd floor
When:  Start 10/25 7:30am-8:10am, and following Fridays
Why:    Because, Math is fun!
Who:    3rd graders, and parents are welcome too!
How:    Bring a pencil and that’s it!
Have an hour on a Friday morning? We need volunteers to help lead the sessions. All materials are provided. If you can just lead one session it would help us out!

Featuring a Performance by True Story Theatre

The parent-led Diversity and Inclusion Groups of the Arlington Public Schools (APS) invites all families to a Potluck and Meet & Greet. The DIGs mission is to support the diversity of our families and advance equity and inclusion in the APS. We work in collaboration with school administrators toward making our schools safe and welcoming learning spaces for all our children and their families, inclusive of all identities. We believe this work will prepare our children to be successful in an increasingly diverse world.

All are welcome to this family friendly event. If you feel inclined, please bring any food or dish that
is significant to your family’s culture.

True Story Theater of Arlington will provide a short participatory improvisational skit at 6:45 PM.

Arlington Youth Counseling Center (AYCC) Gala

Friday, 11/1, 7 PM to 10:30 PM, Arlington Town Hall

Each year, hundreds of Arlington community members come together to support the work of the Arlington Youth Counseling Center (AYCC), promote the value of community mental health, and celebrate the year’s accomplishments. In addition to honoring Carlene Newell, a member of the Board of Youth Services, the gala will feature raffles, a silent auction, live music by the Arlington High School Jazz band, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar.  This year we are thrilled to be the first town event to offer a low waste event and will be partnering up with Zero Waste Arlington (formerly the Recycling Committee).  The tickets are $75.00pp which will also include a free drink ticket. We look forward to seeing you and your continued support!!

*We only include school events or town of Arlington events. 
*Submissions should be geared towards Brackett elementary students and their families. 
*Listings should be 125 words or less, if possible.  We will condense as needed.

    --Brief summary/description, including any deadlines and/or registration links
    --Contact information (email or website)
    --If applicable, a picture that represents the event
