VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for MATH NIGHT 2014!!

When:  December 4, 2014 from 6-8 pm

Where:  Brackett School 66 Eastern Ave. Arlington MA

Brackett Math Night is fast approaching. The PTO committee organizing the event (Brackett-STEM) has developed a list of 20 super-exciting math activities for all age kids to try - the ever-popular Win the Jar, a math scavenger hunt, the Giant Wall Chart, and games such as Sudoko, Big Dice Bingo, and Magic Square Race.  As usual, pizza and baked goods will be sold.  Our committee members are in the process of choosing the specific activities that they would like to run, but we will need some parent volunteers from the broader Brackett community as well!  Please let us know if you are interested in helping out in some way!  Email Deb Savage at deb.e.savage@gmail.com

Brackett Bank
Brackett School Savings Bank is turning 29!

The bank will be closed on Friday, November 21, as there will be a school assembly to celebrate the bank’s 29th year in operation at Brackett School.  There will be a presentation on banking and the value of learning how to save by our sponsor, Cambridge Savings Bank.  Also, fifth grade students who volunteer at the bank and parent volunteers will be recognized for their service and will participate in a group photo.  Afterwards, there will be a penny guess contest where the penny jar will be visiting classes.  Students will have the opportunity take a guess of the amount of pennies in the jar with one winner receiving a $50 American Express gift certificate from Cambridge Savings Bank.

If you have any questions about Brackett Bank or are interested in becoming a parent volunteer at the bank, please contact Patty Chookhae-Kragh at 781-316-0125 or brackettbank@gmail.com.

Jackets and Coats and Gloves Oh My!

With our changing weather, there is an abundance of jackets, coats, gloves, hats, being left on the play ground after recess.  Items left behind are brought to the Lost and Found area in the cafeteria for students to pick up.  Our clothes rack is now full as well as a table piled high with items.

If you are missing any fall and winter jackets, coats, gloves, hats, etc., from home, you may want to visit the Lost and Found area in the cafeteria.  Items not picked up will be donated to a local charity before the Thanksgiving Break.

Arlington-Teosinte Sister City Project is selling coffee!

An excellent coffee for a wonderful cause! Each pound of coffee sold will help support health, education and leadership projects in Teosinte.  Teosinte is the sister city to the town of Arlington.  Fourth graders will be studying the culture of Teosinte and will be participating in a district wide music event later in the school year.

Look for the backpack flyer/order form to purchase this coffee.  It's a wonderful coffee to go with your Thanksgiving Pies or a great hostess gift for the holidays.  Orders need to be returned to the main office in the envelope marked Teosinte by Wednesday, November 26th.  Each pound of coffee costs $15.  You can get Medium Roast Whole Bean or Ground and Dark Roast Whole Bean or Ground.

Tell your Teacher they are a STAR!
The Arlington Education Foundation STARS (School Teachers are Really Special) program is a way to say “Thank you for all you do!”   With your $15 donation, the teacher of your choice will receive a certificate that honors them with a gift in their name.  Consider a STAR as your holiday teacher gift (deadline is December 3 to ensure delivery before the December break).
