Colonial Day for Third Graders
Third Grade Parents- Save the Date!

REV

The third grade teachers have approved Friday, May 31st for parents and third graders to celebrate Colonial Day at Brackett.
Colonial Day is run by parent volunteers. All third grade parents are welcome to participate if you are able to come in to help with some activities that day. There will be a kick-off meeting soon where you can learn more about Colonial Day and what kind of activities are possible but first we need to find a team of coordinators to begin planning this special day.

Colonial Day coordinators needed!
A coordinator or team of volunteers are also needed for the upcoming February Valentine's Day Flower Sale.
This is the only fundraiser for Colonial Days so it is an important one to cover the cost of materials and any food.

If you are interested in being a Colonial Day coordinator, please contact Susan at  svd418@verizon.net or Alison at acarrier00@yahoo.com .

World Language and Immersion in Elementary Schools

Parents have you ever wished there were more opportunities for your child to learn another language at a young age in Arlington? If so, please join our group of parents, educators, and community members working together to realize a grand vision of world language education at the elementary level in Arlington on January 10, 2013 at the School Committee meeting at 6:30pm at the High School (6th floor). Follow us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Arlington.Bilingual.Education

We believe bilingual literary is an essential skill in preparing our children for life in a globalized world. We are proposing a comprehensive program that offers: 1) language immersion, 2) a traditional Foreign Language at the Elementary Schools (“FLES”) model, and 3) after school program options; commencing with a pilot Spanish immersion program at the kindergarten level in September 2013. Why is this important if I am a parent with children who are older than kindergarten age:
·A pilot immersion is nearly a net-neutral way to build support for a comprehensive program in all schools from K-5 over the next two to three years;
·APS would join leading school districts and enhance the APS reputation;
·Supporting a pilot sends a message that we innovate & we can compete and not just play catch up;
·It would not affect or diminish time or resources spent on current curriculum; and
·The vision is to offer options for foreign language exposure for all children.
How to support this initiative: Attend the School Committee Meeting on January 10th at 6:30pm at the High School – 6th Floor;
