Opportunity to Sponsor a Book for the Brackett Library at the Science Fair, March 17th, 6-8pm
THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored a book and contributed to the success of the Brackett Library Book Sponsorship program this year!!! I know that my daughter enjoys reading the book plates. We recently came across one sponsored several years ago by a student who is now one of the coaches at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club. This was very heartwarming.
If you have not yet sponsored a book but would like to, there will be an opportunity to sponsor one of the remaining books during the Science Fair on March 17th. Sponsoring a book for the Brackett School Library is a great way to support our library while also honoring a special person! Book sponsorship is $15 per book. Each sponsored book receives a special book plate with the donor’s and honoree’s names. Please contact Tara O’Leary with questions: teoleary@verizon.net
Thank you for your generous support of the library,
Tara

Thank you for your contributions to the Election Day Bake Sale!
Thanks to everyone who took the time and the effort to bake all of the delicious goodies that were sold at the Election Day Bake Sale! With tables full of brownies, cookies, scones, cupcakes etc., it looked like a professional bakery. We sold out of everything and raised over $650 for the Brackett PTO!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Brackett Family Skating Party!
Thank you to Eileen Purcell and Sarah Greable for organizing and running the Brackett Family Skating Party last Friday at Belmont Hill. Almost $1000 was raised at the event and dozens of Brackett families donated drinks, desserts, money, and time (setting up, selling tickets and pizza). What a great event!

School Enrollment News
On Tuesday night, The Enrollment Task Force (ETF) met again with all members present. Approximately a third of the 2-hour meeting was public comment, mostly from the current tenants of the Gibbs School.
The ETF voted to approve two simultaneous studies to look at an expansion to OMS and a renovation of Gibbs School. They are scheduled to take six weeks and will happen concurrently. HMFH Architects will do the studies and will report back after the site visits and will provide a draft report to the ETF before the end of the six-week period. The plan is to have money for a designer/architect to plan the renovation at Gibbs (or the OMS expansion) appropriated at Town Meeting at the end of April/early May. In order to present at Town Meeting and ask for funds, the ETF has to make a decision about which course to take in advance of Town Meeting.
The Enrollment Task Force will meet again on March 29th, but Thursday’s School Committee Meeting will be discussing which course to take. To find out more information, there is a website created by a group of concerned Thompson parents which is updated on a regular basis: https://sites.google.com/site/thompsonovercrowding/home. Minutes and presentations have been uploaded and people can sign up to receive regular update emails. There is also a link on the main Town of Arlington page: http://www.arlingtonma.gov/town-governance/all-boards-and-committees/school-enrollment-task-force. The meeting on Tuesday night was filmed on ACMI and can be found on video on demand on their site: http://vod.acmi.tv/2016/03/school-enrollment-task-force-march-8-2016/

Cultural Enrichment Committee Update
On February 22 the PTO Cultural Enrichment Committee sponsored a performance for First Grade students by artist Veronica Robles. Ms. Robles performed song and dance from different states and eras in Mexican history, including Aztec, Mariachi and Jarabe Tapatío (the "Mexican Hat Dance"). She is a very engaging performer and invited students to sing and dance with her (some even got to put on costumes!). We are very pleased to present this performance, which compliments and enhances the First Grade curriculum on Mexico.
