Textile Recovery Challenge due tomorrow! Help Us WIN!

Thank you to all who have dropped textiles in our HUGE bin in the lobby.  Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to help us be the top collector in Arlington.  Each school has 1 week to try to collect the most textiles
Clothes, shoes, bedding, towels, stuffed animals, etc are welcome in any condition (worn, torn, stained is fine!). Please bag all items and place them in the collection bin.

Did you know 95% of textiles can be RECYCLED but 85% go into Landfills? Help us win the town challenge!!

Curious why textile donation and recycling is important:

Brackett After School Program (BASP) registration for 2017-2018 is now open. Brackett parents, please go to the portal to register or re-register your child before 3/31.   https://register.asapconnected.com/default.aspx?org=4108

Please note that registration does not guarantee enrollment. Families will be notified in April about enrollment status for 2017-2018.

This Friday- Brackett Bank is Open!

Has your student signed up for an account? All 1st- 5th graders should try Brackett Bank to learn about saving while they make deposits/withdrawals during Bank Hours, Fridays 8:30- 9:30 am during the school year!  Our student customers love the bank!  While we have several 5th grade volunteers, a few parents who can help staff this minimal (1hr/week) volunteer opportunity through the end of the school year would be greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions, please contact Patty at 617-407-9971 or brackettbank@gmail.com.

Thank you!  -Patty, Mom to Andy, 1st Grade

Arlington EATS Food Collection/ Book Drive through Mon., 4/3

Brackett is helping collect donations to help Arlington Eats April Vacation Week program, providing lunches to those in need.  Items in need include: cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, soup, jelly (plastic jars please), canned goods, pasta sauce, condiments, crackers, cookies, meal kits (taco, etc.), (and toiletries, laundry/ dish soap).

Thanks to AHS Sophomore, Henry Fox-Jurkowitz, we are also hosting a Book Drive to hand out during the April Vacation Week!  We are looking for K-8 books in great condition to distribute during Arlington EATS's April Vacation Lunches!  Please email Henry henryfoxj10@gmail.com with any questions. Thanks for cleaning out your closets and pantries for a good cause!!

What is Arlington EATS?   APS offers free and reduced-price lunches that feed more than 500 students each school day, however, when school is not in session, family food resources are often stretched. Arlington EATS’ mission is to make sure that our students have healthy, nutritious food over the long summer vacation, February and April vacation and over the weekends.  Arlington EATS helps our students Eat All Through Summer and the school year!

Brackett Green Team skips a week and then returns!

There will be no Green Team meeting this Friday, 3/24, due to all-town orchestra performance and other activities.

Please join us next Friday, 3/31 2:30-3:30pm in the Art Room for Green Spring-Cleaning & Final Video Making! Join us as we learn about “green “ cleaning and make our own all-natural cleaner to take home. Also, Jonathan from ACMI returns and helps us with our final scenes for our Recycling Video!
2nd Graders enjoyed MFA Japanese Brush-painting class, thanks to your PTO donations

During the past few weeks the second graders attended a special MFA Artful Adventures class on Japanese Brushpainting brought to Brackett through the generous support of your PTO donations to the cultural enrichment committee.

The students were able to learn about traditional Japanese brush painting techniques first-hand by the skilled MFA teachers. Students practiced and experimented with different types of brush strokes to create unique effects, then worked on a final piece on Japanese paper that was then used to create a personalized scroll. The students really enjoyed this experience, we are so thankful to have been offered this opportunity!

Beauty Abounds: Brackett's Spring Concert and Art Exhibit a Huge Success!

Thank you to all of the Parents and families who attended the Annual Concert and Art Exhibit, Roots of the American Beat: Origins of American Popular Music.

Last Friday attendees were wowed by the transformation of the entire lobby by inventive folk and african artwork created over the last few weeks with Ms. Chisholm in the art classes, including drums, quilts, 3-D pages, and musical instruments.

Mrs. Esile-Sylva led the students in an amazing concert; each of the grades performed African, Folk and Rock songs, complete with musical instrument accompaniment and even dance displays to highlight the theme.  The students were so proud to show off their hard work!

We are so fortunate to have such talented and creative students and teachers at Brackett to provide this excellent event each year!
