For those students who have epi-pens, daily medications, PRN medications, or supplies in the nurse's office please make arrangements to pick these belongings up before the last day of the school year. Medications/epi-pens left in the office will be properly disposed of during the summer months. 'Mythmasters' Greek Myths Assembly Delights Brackett!
The PTO Cultural Enrichment Committee hosted assemblies for all grades on Wednesday, June 21. Professional actors from Young Artists of Massachusetts delighted both students and teachers with their presentation of "Mythmasters," a hilarious and educational performance of three Greek myths. Students learned what myths are as well as facts about ancient Greek theater and history. Third grader Claire Harrington volunteered to play the role of Eurydice in the story of "Orpheus." She and all of the student volunteer actors, musicians and "chorus" did a wonderful job!
Thanks to the PTO for funding Cultural Enrichment programming for our students.

Lost & Found
Wondering where all your kids stuff is? It's in the Lost & Found! Please come reclaim your kids hoodies, jackets, lunch boxes, sneakers and more. All items will be donated after Friday, June 23rd.

Room Parents for 2017-2018 – Sign up now!
Love Brackett and our fabulous Teachers? Want to know what helps the classroom pull off great in class events and get to know each other throughout the year? BECOME A ROOM PARENT!!!
As we look ahead to the 2017-18 school year, the PTO hopes you will consider serving as a room parent. Generally, we have two room parents in each classroom managing communications, classroom events, and teacher appreciation gifts, however, more are welcome! Time committment and duties vary by grade, and often much of it can be done around your schedule and not necessarily in class during school hours. It’s a great way to get to know your child’s teacher and other parents and your child's grade level class as a whole!
If you are interested in signing up or have questions, please send an email to Kristin LeClair (kleclair624@gmail.com) and indicate which grade your child will be in next year.
Thanks so much to all of our current Room Parents- we hope this group continues to grow!
-Kristin LeClair, PTO Room Parent Coordinator

PTO Thank You to Brackett Families and Best of Luck to Karen!

This year, you helped the PTO raise over $16,300 through our annual appeal. This is a record breaking amount for the PTO and doesn't even include all of the money raised through the auction and read-a-thon! With this funding, we not only have an amazing new climbing wall, countless field trips and cultural enrichment activities, but our new and improved library has additional shelving and seating. Thank you for all you do to support the Brackett community.
We also sadly say farewell to our amazing PTO Co-Chair, Karen Fuhrman as she and her family are moving. Within just a year, her imprint on Brackett has been tremendous, and we are so lucky to have had you and your energy in so many PTO and Brackett endeavors. All the best, Karen, and thank you from the entire PTO and school!

STEM Salutes our Volunteers and You- Opportunity to Co-Chair!
Thank you to the students, parents, teachers and staff of Brackett for bringing your enthusiasm and love of science to this year’s STEM events. It’s been a very successful year of STEM Enrichment at Brackett Elementary School. We launched bottle rockets, completed experiments during National Chemistry Week, led Math Mornings (grades 3-5), completed Hour of Code, hosted STEM Night, and added grade specific activities - tidepools, chicks, MOS visits, and much more. We hope you continue to be curious and experimentally minded this summer!
As the school year winds down, some good things must come to an end as Karen has decided to set down from the STEM Co-Chair role. Much thanks to her for making the past two year of STEM absolutely terrific, and we look forward to her boundless energy and bountiful ideas as a STEM Committee member.
With that we put the call out for a new STEM Co-Chair for the 2017-2018 school year. As Co-Chair you will help shape the direction of STEM education at Brackett, and organize an amazing group of STEM committee members for enrichment activities throughout the year.
Please contact us if you are interested. Have a great summer!

School Committee Seeks Community Volunteer for Arlington Human Rights Commission
The AHRC was created by Town Meeting in 1993 to advance issues related to the fair and equal treatment of individuals and to create a mechanism for addressing complaints arising out of these issues. The School Committee is one of three appointing authorities to the Commission and currently seeks a member of the community to serve as the Community Member on the AHRC.
The mission of the AHRC is to work individually and collaboratively with other groups in our community to celebrate the ever-changing tapestry of our Town, and to emphasize through educational outreach the danger of intolerance at every level. The Commission usually meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Jefferson Cutter House.
Individuals interesting in applying for the appointment should send a letter of interest and resume to School Committee Administrative Assistant Karen Fitzgerald, 869 Massachusetts Avenue, 6th Floor, Arlington, MA 02476 or email at kfitzgerald@arlington.k12.ma.us, by noon Friday, June 23, 2017. Questions about the AHRC and its work may be directed to info@arlingtonhumanrights.org.
