Time to Sign Up for the June Fair!
If you haven't had the chance to volunteer for an event this year and would like to help out, here's your chance! The annual Brackett School June Fair is coming up on Saturday, June 13th and is the largest fundraiser of the year for the PTO. This event requires a tremendous amount of man, woman and kid power to pull off. We know this is a really busy time of year and finding a spare hour on the weekend is tough. We really appreciate any time you can give to this wonderful community event.
Thank you so much!
The 2015 June Fair Committee

June Fair Cafe 2015 - We need your baked goods!
For the past couple of years the June Fair Committee has hosted a bake sale at our annual event. It has been a huge success and we need your help to pull it off again this year. The Brackett Community has some amazing bakers and we would love your donations. 100% of the proceeds from this event go towards funding programs for our kids.
We are requesting individually bagged items- cookies, brownies, muffins, etc. Please make sure that you LABEL your items and please, no nuts. Items can be dropped off Friday evening during Yard Sale drop off, or the morning of the event.
Thank you!

Updates from the Brackett Health Office
As the days become warmer, lots of outdoor activities will start to happen. Here are a few things to keep in mind while you are enjoying the outdoors:
Sun sense: Cover up with sunscreen whenever you will be in the sun. An SPF of 30 is good. Reapply after swimming and every few hours. Apply sunscreen to your child before sending them to school. Send your child to school with a small container of sunscreen that they can reapply themselves if needed. The teachers cannot apply sunscreen. Wear hats and cover up with clothing made of Lycra. Lycra protects your skin from the suns rays. Stay out of the sun from 10 AM to 2 PM whenever possible.
Tick checks: If you plan to be in wooded or high grassy areas, check carefully for ticks. This is a two-person job. You need to check each other’s backs as well as the front. Don’t forget to check your scalp as well. The ticks that carry lyme disease are tiny, about the size of a pinhead or freckle. If you find one on your body, pull it straight up and out with tweezers and save it in a baggy or some sort of container. Inform your PCP.
Use bug spray: If you are in wooded areas or out at dusk or in the evening, remember to use insect repellent. Some mosquitoes may carry EEE virus (Eastern Equine Encephalitis), or West Nile Virus, which can cause serious health risks if you are bitten.
Always wear your protective gear: If you are using anything with wheels, a helmet is a MUST. Start now so you will be used to it even on hot days. Don’t forget mouth guards, shin, elbow, knee and wrist equipment for many sports and activities.
Drink, Drink, Drink: Keep hydrated especially on those very hot days. If you plan to be doing very strenuous activities for 20 minutes or longer, a sports drink that contains sugars and salt will be helpful. Otherwise have water handy whenever you are out for long periods of time.
Enjoy the outdoors!!

SCHOOL LIBRARY NOTICE
Please Be Careful Where You Return Books
A lot of Brackett books are getting returned to the Robbins Library. Please double check before dropping them off in the bin. If you accidentally drop them at Robbins Library, they will get returned to Brackett but it creates a lot of work for the Robbins Library staff.
Returning Books - End of the Year
June 5 - Last day to check out books.
June12 - All books should be returned
June 15 - Overdue book lists for parents will be printed.
Good reminders for Parents:
- Though kids will say they already returned them, please make sure they look for them.
- Look at home, after school programs, car, bedroom, classroom, lunchroom, etc. for books.
- Kids can check the shelves in the Library for books they think they have returned (there are sometimes errors).
- If a student lent a book to a friend, they are still responsible for the book.
Please direct questions to Mrs. Schumacher: jschumacher@arlington.k21.ma.us
Thank you!
