June Fair is Sunday! Last Call for Help

Dear friends of the Fair:

Thanks to all that have signed up to assist and donate with the Fair. The call has largely been heeded (and glad to see some dads signing up too!)—but we are still in need of some more assistance with the following:

  • donations for the bake sale: please visit our signup genius at our Facebook page @BrackettSchoolJuneFair, or at  https://bit.ly/2ID8Z5b
  • donations for the musical cakes game: please visit our signup genius on our FB page or at https://bit.ly/2kx27fw
  • signups for volunteers: we are still in need of volunteers to help with the races, resale shop, cake walk, and clean up crew (and a handful of other spots as well). Found in our FB page or athttps://bit.ly/2InVBll
  • donations for the resale shop: please all drop off items by Friday (kids clothes, games, toys, stuffed animals, books, sporting equipment) on the stage in the cafeteria, in or near the bins marked ‘Resale Shop Donations’, or email carol1279@gmail.com for address for porch dropoff if that’s easier.

Also, we could use a couple more 10’ x 10’ canopy tents—if you have one to lend, please email us.

Thank you! We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

Brackett Annual Appeal - we are HALFWAY to our goal!

Thank you to the many Brackett families who have made a gift to support our Annual Appeal, we are halfway to our goal of having 150 families donate! The Brackett PTO spends $100 per student each year on enrichment activities - that includes things like the library renovation, last year's rock wall installation in the gym, and the field trips all of our kids participate in. It also includes classroom enhancements - rugs, art and general classroom supplies, and new technologies.

If you haven't had the chance to make your gift, please help us reach our goal.  Any sized gift makes a difference!  You can make your gift via paypal from the Brackett website: http://brackettelementary.org/ (click DONATE in the left-hand margin) or by leaving a check in the school office.

Thank you for your support!
The Brackett PTO

Brackett Bank News

As the school year is ending, please note that Brackett Bank operations have come to a close for the 2017-2018 school year.   Student savings accounts will remain open but not accessible during the summer months.  Students will be able access their accounts when the bank resumes operations in the 2018-2019 school year starting in October.  Please note that accounts will remain the same in subsequent school years and there is no need to close and re-open a new account each year.

The Brackett Bank team will be closing 5th grade student accounts by June 20.  Closing proceeds will be provided in cash for balances under $20.   Balances over $20 will be given in the form of a check.  Brackett Bank team representatives will be visiting 5th grade classes to perform the closing process for students who currently have accounts.

If you any questions about the bank, please contact Patty Chookhae-Kragh at 617-407-9971 or brackettbank@gmail.com.

Green Team News

Green Team will have its final meeting of the school year on Friday, June 15th. Join us from 2:30-3:30pm in the Art Room to celebrate another great year!

The Green Team will help run the Plant Sale at June Fair on Sunday! We need your plant donations! Plants should be dropped off Friday, June 8th until 5:30pm in the cafeteria or the morning of the fair, Sunday, June 10th, by 10am to the Plant Sale table. We will leave plant containers outside the school on Thurs and Fri that you can use to bring in your plants.

Green Team needs five more 1/2 gallon milk and juice cartons for our garden kits! Please drop off to the collection box in the front lobby of the school.

Room Parents for 2018-2019 - Sign up Now!

As we look ahead to the 2018-19 school year, the PTO hopes you will consider serving as a room parent. Generally, we have two room parents in each classroom managing communications, classroom events, and teacher appreciation gifts. It’s a great way to get to know your child’s teacher and other parents! If you are interested in signing up or have questions, please send an email to Kristin LeClair (kleclair624@gmail.com) and indicate which grade your child will be in next year.

Notes from the Health Office

All medications, and any equipment kept in the nurse’s office must be picked up by an adult on the last day of school. Please remember other items such as lotion, nebulizers, and cough drops. Contact Diane Vergnani 781- 316 -3701 to make special arrangements or if you would like your child’s epipen or inhaler to go home with them in their backpack.

Menotomy History Day

Hello Everyone!

We truly need your help to pull off this amazing event for our children.  It is a wonderful experience for the children, but also for the parents who participate. In the past, many parents have taken time off from work to be involved in the different activities of the day. You don't need to take a full day. There will be opportunities in the morning and the afternoon. We will also be making apple crisp with the kids in their classrooms on Thursday afternoon (6/14) and will need volunteers to lead this and also to bake them that night. The kids will eat the crisps during outdoor games. There will also be a need for parents to help set up the lobby and classrooms the night before and to bake cornbread for the kids to eat with butter that they will make. During the day on Friday, the kids will dip candles, make pinch pots, learn how to spin and weave, take part in a one-room schoolhouse, study crime & punishment, make butter and participate in outdoor games. New this year there will be a presentation from a member of the Royall House and Slave Quarters (located in Medford, MA).

We need many more vounteers to help with the outdoor games. The time commitment for this will be 12:30-2:30 on Friday afternoon.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you dads out there!

For this event to happen and be successful, we need substantial and enthusiastic parental involvement. I promise you it will be worth it. The date is Friday, June 15 so please start planning to spend some time at school with your kids that day. Here is the signup:

www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0A4DADA622A46-menotomy

I look forward to meeting all of you as we continue to plan a fun, hands-on learning experience for the 3rd graders.

Please feel free to contact us, Kate (katemikkelson@yahoo.com) or Inae (inaehwang@gmail.com) with any questions or if you're interested in leading an activity.

Thank you,
Inae
