Committees

Connecting with the Brackett PTO is a great way to become involved in your child’s education

The Brackett Parent Teacher Organization is a parent-led effort to support our school through community building and enrichment activities for our students.

Have an impact on the direction of your child’s education by joining one of our committees or take advantage of the opportunities to be present for small moments in the school or at one of our many activities. Volunteer opportunities come in many shapes and sizes, even an hour or two of your time can make a difference and add to the enrichment of our students’ experience.

Academic Enrichment

STEM Committee

The STEM Committee plans and organizes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math enrichment activities to Brackett.  Some annual highlights include STEM Night, Chemistry Week, Math Mornings, Hour of Code, and the 4th and 5th grade Science Fair.

Green Team

The Green Team helps Brackett and its community become more environmentally sustainable. Some of their initiatives include: volunteer cleanups, clothing swaps, native plant sales, and educating students about recycling and composting through their lunchtime helper program.

Library Committee

The Library Committee helps support the librarians at Brackett by organizing volunteers to come into Library classes and assist with library circulation, book shelving, classroom activities, and more.  The committee also helps organize author’s visits to the school and holds the annual Brackett Book Fair – the proceeds from this event benefit the Brackett Library.

Community Engagement

Fall Fest

Fall Fest is the first major PTO event of the school year.  We celebrate the new school year by coming together and connecting as a community through a variety of fall-themed activities and plenty of snacks and cider.

Culture and Creativity Night

Culture and Creativity Night highlights and explores the cultural diversity of our community.  We identify ourselves in so many ways – by language of origin, abilities, family structure, ethnicity, etc.  This diversity of cultural identity enriches our school.   We celebrate with “museum tables,” arts and crafts, music, activities, and a sampling of diverse cuisines from around the world!

Fundraising

Annual Appeal

The Fall Fund Drive is the major PTO fundraising event of the year.  On average the Brackett PTO spends $160 per student annually to bring robust enrichments to our school, including subsidizing field trips, funding enrichment activities such as STEM night and math mornings, booking author visits and arts performances, and hosting events to promote a tight-knit, supportive community.  These programs are supported entirely through donations from the Brackett community.

Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-Thon is an annual Brackett tradition that traditionally occurs for two weeks in February/March.  All of the students work together to meet a school goal of minutes-read.  In 2024, students were challenged to read a total of 200,000 minutes — they exceeded that goal at read over 360,000 minutes in just two weeks!  Families and community members pledge donations for their student’s reading; the Read-a-Thon is the PTO’s second-largest fundraiser.

5th Grade Committee

The 5th Grade Committee coordinates a variety of fifth-grade traditions, including class t-shirts, yearbook, and a class gift to the Brackett community. The committee also plans special 5th grade activities throughout the year, including the Celebration of Learning in June.
